One-year-old baby fighting for life after being pulled from hot tub in unclear circumstances
Firefighters rushed to the scene of the incident in the 19th Avenue and Greenway Parkway area of Phoenix, Arizona, on Sunday morning to reports of a drowning
A one-year-old boy was left battling for his life after being rescued from a hot tub.
Fire crews rushed to a house in Phoenix, Arizona, on Sunday morning following reports of a drowning incident. They arrived at the scene around 11:30am on Sunday to find the baby had been pulled out of the hot tub.
A bystander was found performing CPR on the youngster before he was rushed to hospital in a critically serious condition.
It remains unclear how long the child had been underwater in the hot tub. Phoenix police are now probing the circumstances that lead to the incident.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), drowning is the top cause of death for children aged between one and four in the US. Each year in the US, there are approximately 8,000 nonfatal drownings and 4,000 fatal unintentional drownings.
In contrast, the UK sees about 400 drownings annually. The CDC suggests several measures to significantly lower the risk of drowning among children, reports the Mirror.
Earlier this year, a tragic incident occurred when a three year old girl drowned in Bali while holidaying with her Australian parents. The family had rented the accommodation with a pool for their holiday.
Janaa Al Easawi, 3, from Western Sydney, Australia, was found unconscious in a swimming pool at her parent’s villa in Seminyak in January.
Her father and another Australian national discovered her and attempted CPR to save her, but sadly, she could not be saved despite being rushed to the hospital.
A family spokesperson revealed that Janaa’s parents were under the impression that the gate to the pool had been secured. The family now hopes this heartbreaking incident will serve as a warning to others.
