Please can I have a post please. Not really baby related but I’m due to have a root canal on Monday… this will be the 5th appointment as I’ve rearranged the last 4. I’m honestly so scared, like really scared. Please can people share their experiences? Like is it as bad as I’m imagining? Was it just like a filling? Did the root canal work? At the minute I’m not getting any pain in said tooth hence why I keep delaying it, like I get the dentist wants to treat it before it’s gets worse, I’ve thought about just having the tooth taken out instead as I’ve heard most people end up having to have the tooth removed anyway but the thing is I already have a tooth missing next to this tooth so I can really afford to loose another tooth. I just know I’ve left it too late to rearrange the appointment now so have no choice but to go I’m just so so scared.

I had one done in the 90s and it was awful. It felt like it was coming out of my eye socket. So when I needed another last year, I worked myself up into such a state.
But it was for nothing. I can honestly say I didn’t feel a single thing. Dentistry is constantly evolving.
It’s not bad at all , You can’t feel anything apart from like a pressure sensation rather than pain its self . I had 3 treatments in the same tooth and honestly it was a relief to have the work done . I was given the option to have it pulled out or try to save it with root canal. Was an easy choice , saved the tooth with 3 treatments, so honestly isn’t painful at all
Tell the Dentist & the nurse you are nervous about the appt. You will be fine 🙂 p
Dental nurse here- you will be numb, you won’t feel anything different to having a filling! Takes a bit longer and you’ll need a few X-rays, it’s usually done in two stages but as far
As the procedure itself you won’t know what they are doing any different to any other treatment!
The only person who dreads root canals are dental nurses 😅 lots of cleaning up and they’re boring lol
I am.literally petrified of the dentist which they know. The procedure itself was OK qnd the dentist was absolutely lovely. However two years later I had to get the tooth out anyway so feel that the stress involved was not worth it when a lot of the time you only get a few years extra. This year I opted just to get rid of the tooth. Think it also depends of what tooth eg if it was a front one it is q harder choice to go through with the root canal than if its a back tooth
If you are going to an Endodontist, they will do an excellent job that you won’t feel anything and you won’t even see you had a root canal done, but the procedure is quite long as this is what they specialise in.
If you are seeing a dentist then you have a 50/50 of feeling uncomfortable and possibly seeing the tooth had a root canal as they aren’t 100% specialised in this.
It will be almost like a filling. The strangest part Is when the dentist is removing the root tissue. It’s not painful and can take a bit longer. He will make sure all the old root is removed , fill the cavity with antibiotic material. And fill the upper area like a molar filling. You may be a bit sore from the keeping your mouth open but should be fine. Take s9me Panadol before to help relax you and help with inflammation . I don’t like root canal but not because of pain , just the higher chance of infection, but be assured , the procedure is very well monitored and guards against any bacteria getting into the area are well followed.
I was about 6 months pregnant with my daughter when I had root canal. My tooth snapped because of hormones lol honestly you won’t feel a thing. I was so numbed up I nearly fell asleep…twice
You won’t feel a thing, you will be numbed up, if you’re really scared ask the dentist for extra anesthetic
I’ve recently started my fifth root canal, and I hate the needle. It’s pretty similar to a filling, and once the anaesthetic kicks in, you don’t feel any pain.
It’s better if you can save the tooth.
