I can arrive home or walk into a room where my husband is and feel absolutely happy and fine. My husband then asks if I’m ok or is everything ok? I say it is, because it is, I am happy. He will then ask me again a few minutes later. I give the same response when he then says ‘are you sure because you don’t seem ok.’ We have been together for 16 years and this is a regular occurrence. Previously I would again say that I am fine which can result in him asking two, three or even four more times, by which time I’m now not ok and getting annoyed with being asked and not believed that I am ok. The past two times that he has asked, I said yes the first time and then when he asked again minutes later, I’ve explained that I was fine and asked what it is that I do that makes him question that I am not ok. This results in him getting angry with me for asking! I explain that if I know what is causing him to think that i am not ok, I can change what I am doing so he doesn’t have to ‘worry’ about me. This just escalates his annoyance with me.
I really feel in a no win situation. I am usually totally fine but not believed when I say I am and if I try and understand why he thinks that, I he then gets angry at me. I must admit, that after the second time of having to insist that I am ok and still not believed, I do get a bit annoyed at not being believed, but I can’t help that, especially as this is just so regular.
Has anyone else experienced this, if so, how do you deal with it and am I being unreasonable?
