Marlow Outlaws recognize father and son wrestling champions

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – The Marlow Outlaws, a school known for winning in sports in its respective divisions, have added a unique accolade to its history books.

The Outlaws have father-son duos that are now state champions in their own weight division. After Securing a win at state, Tommy Miller joins his dad Ray Miller as a state champ.

Tommy is still looking to catch up with his dad, as he said “It was a very exciting thing, I mean he won three, you know so hopefully I can go get one more and make it three, and we’ll have a bunch of state titles together”. Ray Miller said, “The emotions to be honest I feel like a wrestling mom, I kind of understand what they feel, not being able to be out there. I mean I get more nervous for his matches than I did my own by far”.

While Tommy has hopes of catching his dad in titles, Brantz Bateman said putting his name in the books with his dad feels good, he added “It feels good, I was kind of raised around it and raised up to that and I have a higher standard to win and be successful”. Bateman’s dad Shawn said “Obviously we got more excited for our kids having success than our own.” He added, “We have two totally different styles, he kind of goes for broke and I was more defensive and harder to score on.”

While Tommy spoke about his dad winning three, Keller Kizarr had the same thing to say about his dad. Kizarr said that he was inspired by his dad, and looked up to him, he added “He won three, so I knew I at least had to win one.”

Keith Kizarr, dad of Keller said his emotions from being a former champ and dad of now state champ were exciting and satisfying, Keith added “he’s been a part of wrestling his whole life, I’ve been a part of his coaching and he just wanted to wrestle automatically.”

The Outlaws have something very special to put in their history books, as well as the families. Throughout the three duo’s they have a total of 12 individual state titles, five team championships, and two dual-state championships.
