I need some advice. My child has developed a stutter over the last year or so, it seems to have got progressively worse over time and over the last 2 weeks he can barely even string a sentence together. He’s 7 years old, on the waiting list for speech and language already. He was admitted for delayed speech when he was 4 as he was non verbal, then out of nowhere it all came out. They discharged him and then theyve had to re-admit him ðŸ«
What I’m asking is, is there anything I can do at home to help? Or anything that can be recommended because he’s more self aware now so he’s visibly upset and frustrated when he cant get the words out and its breaking my heart.

My stepson had this awful when he was about 3-5yrs old. We just encouraged him to take him time, think about his words and try again. Never got irritated ect with him, fully waited for him to finish so he knew he wasn’t rushed or being annoying ect.
Also got him to read simpler books outloud just to help his wording.
He is now 12 and wouldn’t kno any different now.
As a autistic person I went to speech therapy as a kid. I still got a bit of speech problems. But when I grew to an adult it was the way the autistic brain worked to process the words to get them out my mouth. I go to a support centre and one guy there a grown man he had trouble getting his words out but clearly an intelligent man just can’t get his words out. I had braces which made my speech better.
Stop, think of words, breathe, talk slower
