One of the most common “mistakes” I see parents of newborns and young infants making is automatically swooping in to offer their little one something that they may not have needed in the first place! I’m talking about babies who are not crying or indicating a need, just “hanging out.” This tends to happen when a baby is taking a little while to fall asleep, or maybe woke early from a nap, or maybe they’re just having some awake time in their crib, bassinet, or bouncer, etc….just laying there. Parents often automatically assume their baby needs SOMETHING and pick them up to rock or feed them to sleep, or tend to them in some way. Which – by the way – is NOT “wrong” in any way! It’s just a GREAT opportunity to pause and give your little one just a bit of independence to experiment with and see what they’ll do next. Maybe they will fall asleep, maybe they will start to cry and need help, maybe they will just look around and stare and interesting things. I often find that these moments of offering a little space can actually help parents determine when their little one needs something and what they need based on their behaviors! 🤍✅ If you’re expecting and want to be fully prepared on how to set up an amazing sleep foundation with your newborn, OR you’re a current newborn parent looking to focus on sleep with step-by-step tools, visit the link in my bio to learn about my 0-3 Months Newborn Foundations Course! 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️Who here has a newborn or young infant? Have you been accidentally swooping in to “save” your little one instead of waiting a beat to see what they do on their own? Give this a try and let me know what you think! #newbaby #newbornbaby #newmom #newdad #babysleeptips
