Mother and Sister Devastated after Amanda Jaikaran’s Death
Schenectady, NY (WRGB) — Family, friends, and neighbors gathered Friday night on Lincoln Avenue to honor the life of Amanda Jaikaran, a mother of three who was stabbed to death one week ago.
A growing memorial of flowers, candles, and balloons lined the porch where Jaikaran lost her life. Her loved ones shared memories of her warmth, strength, and unwavering dedication to her family.
“Nobody is holding up well everyone is devastated, everyone is in pain,” says Samantha Jaikaran, Amanda’s sister.
Jaikaran’s mother, Kesri Parmanand, struggled to find the words to express her grief.
“She was one of my good kids I have three kids, I love all of them,” Parmanand said. “I miss her so much, so much, so much.”
Her sister described her as a “fighter” with a radiant personality.
“She would’ve lit up this room like the Fourth of July,” she said. “Amanda was happy, strong, healthy. She was a go-getter, a fighter, a hustler she was a lot.”
Parmanand said her daughter was always trying to lift others up.
“She was funny she always liked to laugh and make somebody’s day if they were down,” she said.
The Jaikaran family immigrated to the United States from Guyana more than 20 years ago. Samantha Jaikaran reflected on their childhood together.
“Me and Amanda were inseparable growing up,” she said. “In our home country, we’d take our grandmother’s silverware like we were cooking, run around the house, pick mangoes.”
Jaikaran’s mother said she will always hold on to the love they shared.
“I gave her her first steps and all the love I could give,” Parmanand said. “And as a daughter, she gave all the love she could give to me. She will always be remembered because she was a lovely child.”
The Schenectady Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.
