‘laughable’ to say nurse may be innocent
The mother of a child attacked by Lucy Letby has described attempts by the nurse’s defence team to overturn her convictions as “laughable”.
The Thirlwall inquiry investigating the circumstances surrounding the nurse’s crimes is due to conclude this week, with its chairwoman, Lady Justice Thirlwall, set to publish her recommendations in the autumn.
As part of their concluding statements, lawyers representing former executives at the Countess of Chester Hospital, where Letby worked as a neonatal nurse, said on Tuesday for the first time that there was a “real possibility” that she was innocent and called for the inquiry to be suspended.
