Does your baby seem to ALWAYS be moving? What if they seem really serious? Parents are always worried if their babies are moving too much or too little, but the truth is that there is a wide range of normal when it comes to this! Just like in adults, personality, time of the day, and energy levels contribute to how much or little a baby moves at any given time. Some babies seem to constantly be in motion, even when they’re resting. We see this in strong, fast developing babies, and in babies who need more movement and vestibular inputs. When this baby locks in on something interesting, their body is excited and we see that physically! These babies often (not always) meet motor milestones early, like crawling, walking, and running. On the other hand, some babies appear calm and still, and are often engaged in deep visual exploration. When this baby locks in on something interesting, their body quiets so their brain can process what they’re seeing. These are the building blocks of focused attention and are a great developmental pattern! These babies often (not always) meet educational milestones earlier, like solving shape sorters and identifying letters and colors . But the point is, BOTH babies are normal. Some babies learn about their world through movement first, others through watching and processing first. And many babies alternate between the two depending on the task and how regulated they feel! My name is Holly and I was a pediatric OT before becoming a stay at home mom to 2 littles! Here sharing developmental tips and milestones, toy and play recommendations, my faith, and my daily life ✨ If you have a young infant at home and aren’t sure if what you’re seeing is normal, feel free to put it in the comments for my thoughts! #parentingtips #baby #occupationaltherapy #babydevelopment #sensory
