Simple adjustments can make a big difference! If you find your baby uncomfortable or struggling with bottle feeds, try sidelying to help you both have a more successful feed. Here is how to implement: 1️⃣ position your baby on their side, with their ear, shoulder, and hip aligned. This can be out in front of you on your leg or across your lap. You can use a pillow to support if needed as well. I also like to have the baby’s head slightly above the hip when feeding in sidelying 2️⃣ hold the bottle horizontal so the bottle nipple is half full and liquid is not passively flowing out of the bottle, but instead flows out when your baby chooses to actively feed. This technique can help if you are breastfeeding and would like to simulate how breast milk is expressed while breastfeeding (does not flow unless your baby is latched). And this can help your baby to more easily transition between bottle and breast. BUT it’s also great for a baby who only bottle feeds as it’s helpful to allow your baby to control the feed. So that when they stop sucking, the liquid stops flowing and when they start sucking, the liquid begins flowing again. Ultimate goal is to have a successful feed where everyone leaves happy 😊 Comment “bottle” and I will send you my FREE step by step guide to bottle feeding so you can feel confident feeding your baby! This information does not replace the advice or recommendations from a pediatrician. Please see your baby’s doctor if you did have any questions or concerns about your baby’s feeding. #sidelyingbottlefeed #sidelying #elevatedsidelying
