Father and son arrested in firearm and animal cruelty investigation


TOWN OF ALEXANDRIA, New York (WWNY) – A father and son have been arrested in what state police are calling a “major firearms and animal cruelty investigation.”

State police charged 28-year-old Guy Plumb of Redwood and his father, 52-year-old Timothy Plumb of Plessis, with multiple felonies.

Troopers said they also seized 33 firearms, ammunition and other contraband. They said they also found two dead dogs that Guy Plumb had allegedly shot.

According to troopers, the investigation began on February 24 when they learned Guy Plumb possessed a revolver without a permit. During the course of the probe, police say they also learned Plumb and his father had other illegal firearms.

State police, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the ATG (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) searched three locations and seized the following items:

46381 Barnes Settlement Road in the town of Alexandria:

  • Multiple boxes of fireworks
  • 2 Kung Fu stars
  • Numerous rounds of ammunition in various calibers
  • 3 long guns
  • 2 dead dogs

24480 Swan Hollow Road in the town of Alexandria:

  • .22 caliber converted assault weapon (semi-automatic rifle with a detachable magazine, pistol grip, and collapsible buttstock)
  • 8 long guns
  • Numerous rounds of ammunition

25955 State Route 26 in Plessis:

  • 5 loaded revolvers, 1 pistol.
  • Numerous rounds of ammunition
  • 15 long guns

Guy Plumb was charged with:

  • Criminal Sale of a Firearm 2nd, – Class C Felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Firearm (2 counts) – Class E Felony
  • Criminal Sale of a Semiautomatic Rifle – Class E Felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th – Class A Misdemeanor
  • Conspiracy 5th – Class A Misdemeanor
  • Unlawful Dealing with Fireworks and Dangerous Fireworks – Violation
  • Aggravated Cruelty to Animals (2 counts) – Class E Felony

Timothy D. Plumb was charged with:

  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd (7 counts) – Class C Felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Firearm (6 counts) – Class E Felony

The men were taken to the Jefferson County Public Safety Building for centralized arraignment.
