Could I have an anonymous post please Could I please get some advice on how to deal with a sensitive situation, recently a friend made a comment to my young children (aged 5 and 10) about their sexual orientation as they are gay, by referring to their boyfriend, which confused my children as they are not aware of sexual orientation/gender issues or anything relating to sex etc. I was really not happy this person did this as it’s not something I feel my children are old enough to understand the complexities of, sex and relationships or even think about adult things at such young ages. But I also don’t want my children to think that it is ‘wrong’. I will discuss these things with my children, and to respect all people, regardless of orientation, colour etc But at an age their father and I choose to discuss these things. I feel this person took that choice away from us without any thought to how we would feel about it. I dont know how to raise the issue with this person without them feeling hurt, i care about them and so do my children, and I don’t want to offend them. Has anyone else had experience with this sort of thing and can advise me?

I would say they already no about sexual orientation. This is taught as standard in Primary Schools. As far to say your 10yo has probably done sex education too already. I don’t see why you would want to hide this from your child. Your friend shouldn’t be made to keep silent or feel ashamed of themselves based on your beliefs! To add that in primary education they also now teach drugs/ alcohol and abuse, as the world is a scary place. Its best for them to know than not know tbh
This is ragebait right???
Gay people exist you can’t expect them to not refer to a partner just because they are gay? Would you have an issue if it was a straight person? My daughter is 9 and has known that anyone can be with a male or female whatever their gender, since whatever age she started asking questions. You don’t need to make it complex until they are at an age where they can understand but you don’t have to hide it
That person needs a new friend ðŸ«
Uhhh so they just said something like “this is my boyfriend” I don’t see anything wrong with that, it’s natural and kids won’t know any different unless they’ve been taught that it’s “wrong”….
