Hey, please post anonymous
It is coming upto my adult child’s birthday (Mid 20s) and they want to go on holiday and want me to pay for it. Over the years they have had many, many experiences paid for by me which is fine, ive wanted to do that and enjoy gift giving in terms of concerts, shows, weekends away and holidays. Last year it was my younger child’s birthday ( still teens) and I paid for all of us to go away as a family ( i am a single mum) of which I am still paying for now. My eldest pays minimal rent 250 a month ( working full time) , I still pay for their phone bill also. I don’t mind the minimal rent as they are trying to save to move out etc.
I have tried my best and spent the last few weeks and all over the weekend trying to make it work financially to pay for us to go away and unfortunately its just too costly. Ive subsequently had everything else I’ve ever provided or done for gifts thrown back in my face, saying that they’ve never had that much etc when that is far from true. My family and friends thinks my eldest is entitled and I am in the right for not paying and a lot of their grown up children have paid their own way since they were 18. Im not looking for sympathy or validation but just seeking others opinions. Thanks

Coming from someone who was spoilt and was still entitled in my early 20s even after moving out of my parents houses – put your foot down and let them know how ungrateful they are coming across and remind them about real life!
Tell them they can have £50 in a card and like it!
