Looking for advice/recommendations – child maintenance.
Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction.
I’m looking for recommendations for a family law solicitor who deals with child maintenance where the other parent lives abroad (Dubai).
My ex and I were never married, he is named on my child’s birth certificate, and he stopped the £150 a month he had been voluntarily paying back in 2021 (when my son was 7). We had no agreement in place as he was working abroad when he decided to end the relationship. I’m now working two jobs and struggling financially, while I know he is a high earner in Dubai.
I’d like to find out what options I have for pursuing child maintenance, but unfortunately I can’t afford to pay privately for a solicitor. I’ve been looking into legal aid, but I’m struggling to find anyone who specialises in these types of cases and also accepts legal aid. Dubai in not a REMO country so child maintenance is not enforceable.
If anyone has been in a similar situation, or can recommend a solicitor who might be able to help, I’d be really grateful. Even advice on where I should start would be appreciated.
