The incredibly rare Irish name given to fewer than three baby boys last year

If you’re on the hunt for a lovely Irish name for your baby boy that’s more on the rare side, you might be in luck as we spotted this rare pick in last year’s charts.

The CSO dropped their list of every name chosen by parents in Ireland in 2024 and lots of beautiful Irish monikers made the cut, including six out of the top ten for boys.

While we’ll always have a special place in our hearts for the classic Irish favourites, there’s lots of lesser known names out there that deserve more time in the spotlight.

According to the CSO, a baby name needs to be used more than three times to appear on the charts and this sweet boy’s name didn’t make the cut last year – making it perfect if your on the lookout for something unique.

Daimhin, pronounced (dah-vin) is a beautiful Irish name that means ‘little deer’ or is also said to translate as ‘servant’ or Also spelled Davin or Davan, it has only charted twice in Ireland, once in 2011 and once in 2016, being used four times in both years.

With less than three baby boys recorded with the name last year, its namesake Davin also didn’t appear in 2024.

Davin has been slightly more popularity over the decades, first ranking in 1970 with three baby Davins born in that year.

It peaked in popularity in 2010 and 2019 with nineteen babies given the name in both years.
