My father is Jeremy Clarkson - but it took Netflix's Drive To Survive to get me hooked on F1

Jeremy Clarkson‘s daughter only got into car racing after watching Netflix series Drive to Survive – despite her father being the face of Top Gear.

Emily Clarkson, 30, revealed that throughout her childhood the roar of Formula One filled her parent’s home, but she was never part of his obsession.

And instead she had to discover the sport on her own – while her brother Finlo, 28, treasured the prizes of Clarkson’s motorsports career.

The podcaster was forced to discover her love for the sport independently when she was drawn in by the streaming giant’s hit series.

Writing for Metro, she said: ‘Despite having grown up with the sounds of the F1 every other weekend of my childhood, it was my brother that ended up with a signed Alonso T-shirt framed on his bedroom wall and not me.

‘Whether I lacked the interest inherently or was excluded from the environment quite consciously, I don’t know. But either way, the F1 is something that I only truly invested in after the first season of Drive to Survive aired.’

Ms Clarkson says that the show has made the sport ‘accessible to women in a way that it wasn’t really before’.

She added: ‘Where many men grew up with their father’s teaching them the ins and outs of the sport, for many women, like me, that fell to Drive To Survive’s resident journalist, Will Buxton.’
