Man arrested after baby found in critical condition
Emergency services were called to Gaer Vale in the early hours of yesterday morning, March 4, over concerns a baby was in ill-health.
Witnesses saw ambulances and police cars attend the scene and say a criminal investigations team remained at the property for hours after emergency services first arrived.
The baby was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, but is now stable following treatment from healthcare staff and paramedics.
The 35-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of child neglect and remains in police custody as their investigation continues.
A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: “We received a report of a medical emergency at an address in Gaer Vale, Newport at around 6.30am on Tuesday 4 March.
“Officers and paramedics attended, and a baby was taken to hospital where it remains in a stable condition.
“A 35-year-old man from Blaenavon was arrested on suspicion of child neglect. He remains in custody at this time.”
