The Irish boy names given to only five babies or less in 2024
The CSO have revealed the comprehensive list of every name chosen by parents in Ireland last year and lots of beautiful Irish boy names made the cut.
While a huge percentage of the top ten most popular names chosen in 2024 were Irish, (Rían, Cillian, Tadhg, Fionn, Liam and Oisín!), we decided to cast a spotlight on the beautiful homegrown monikers that we think deserve a bit more love!

According to the CSO, the following Irish baby boy names were given to less than five babies last year.

- Finbar – Pronounced ‘finn-bar’ – Meaning ‘fair-headed one’
- Fintan – Pronounced ‘fin-tin’ – Meaning ‘little fair one’
- Macdara – Pronounced ‘mac-dah-rah – Meaning ‘son of oak’

- Paidí – Pronounced ‘paw-dee’ – Meaning ‘nobleman’
- Ríoghán – Pronounced ‘ree-an – Meaning ‘little king’
- Turlough – Pronounced ‘ter-lock’ – Meaning ‘dry lake’
- Fiach – Pronounced ‘fee-ick’ – Meaning ‘raven’
- Fionán – Pronounced ‘fyun-awn’ – Meaning ‘fair’

- Riagán – Pronounced ‘ree-gawn’ – Meaning ‘little king’
- Chulainn – Pronounced ‘cull-in’ – Meaning ‘powerful’
