I desperately need a new car. I need one for taking my daughter to school in. I have just updated her DLA claim and if she is to receive high rate mobility we can apply for a motability car. Has anybody else been awarded the higher rate mobility and was successful with a mobility car? As usual I am worried what others will think. Especially family members who already look down on us for claiming benefits.. it’s DLA so it’s surely for my child’s benefit anyway. Getting her to school safely and on time without worrying constantly like I do now that my old car might break down or bits light fall off! I can’t afford a new car or be able to lease one as I have no credit rating at all!

  1. Getting high mobility is incredibly hard to get unless your daughter isnt mobile or you can prove they severe mental impediment. Also with the new changes to mobility you will need atleast £2000 for a down payment on the car, plus mileage has changed aswell. So the scheme is getting incredibly hard to use now. Does your daughter have an EHCP? Can she not get transport for school? I personally would say if you are holding out for higher mobility, that will mean you have money saved for a down payment, i would get a second hand run around.

  2. They have changed the mileage allowance and a few other things which makes the scheme so much less value for money. Think very carefully before getting a car on motorbility. The advanced payments are also quite substantial . But saying all that it’s still a brand new car and they do absolutely everything for you x
