So I am going to be having a son soon and his name has been picked out for a long time. My mum doesn’t like the name because of a tv show (though that’s not why the name was chosen) because she thinks I’m “obsessed with the show” but it was my fiancé who chose the name.
My mum absolutely refuses to acknowledge my son’s name and keeps calling him something completely different. She told me she would call him this for the rest of his life and I had no say. Every time I tried to actually say anything about it, she would cut me off and say “I’m not calling him {insert name}, you’re just obsessed with that show. You’ll change it when he’s born anyway.” So I yelled at her that she will call my son by his name, no matter what she thinks, as I do not want my son to be confused as to why he is being called a name that isn’t legally his.
I’m actually tempted to cut her out of our lives, what would you do?

Oft ive been here ,, picked a different name ,, fine didnt bother me to much ,, however years down the line I figured out she was a total narcissist and done this again with different things ,,, becareful,, do it your way not hers
Just tell her she calls your son by his proper name OR she won’t be seeing him.

So what if it is after a person in a tv show?! he’s your baby and as long as you and your partner are happy stuff her. Your an adult, if she doesn’t respect the name you chose tell her to walk away x

Tell her that if she doesn’t respect your decision on your baby’s name don’t see him until she can, nobody did that to her about you or your siblings and I’m pretty sure if they did , she would be saying and doing the same. If she truly wants to have a bond with that baby and be in that baby’s life then she will respect his name instead of trying to change it for him x
Your son your choice, I named my son Nathan from watching one tree hill I still love the name n won’t let any1 shorted it to Nate and he’s the same he knows where his name came from lol, he’s 13 now.
Do whatever you want. My son is called lucifer and he loves his name & it wasn’t chosen after the series or devil but off Greek mythology! My cousins all said they were going to call him ‘Lucy’ when they seen him, they have yet to see him and he’s 8!🤷♀️🤷♀️ do whatever you want!!!!!
She will take to his name when he’s born
