Mother, 53, appears in court accused of trying to murder her daughter ‘by stabbing her multiple times’
A mother has appeared in court after being accused of attempting to murder her daughter by stabbing her multiple times.
Carla Lovejoy, 53, reportedly launched the knife attack on her daughter Isabella at their bungalow in Broadstairs, Kent, at around 7pm on Thursday, March 20.
A major police and emergency services response – including an air ambulance – was was called to the cul-de-sac on Guy Close, before Isabella, believed to be in her 20s, was taken to a London hospital.
The 53-year-old mother was immediately arrested at the scene and charged with attempted murder on Saturday, March 22.
With her daughter still in ‘serious condition’, Lovejoy today appeared at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court.
She was wearing prison-issue clothing and spoke in the dock to confirm her personal information such as her name, age and address, according to KentOnline.
Lovejoy then returned to police custody where she will remain before a plea and trial preparation will commence on April 22 at Canterbury Crown Court.
During the night of the attack, a forensics team spent the evening trawling through the bungalow looking for evidence.

Police also cordoned off the property in the street which is said to be typically quiet.
Kent Police said in a statement yesterday: ‘Kent Police was called to the St Peter’s area of Broadstairs at 6.50pm on Thursday 20 March 2025.
‘Officers attended a property alongside South East Coast Ambulance Service where a woman in her 20s was treated for injuries consistent with stab wounds.
‘She was taken to a London hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition.
‘A woman who was known to the victim was arrested and an investigation into the incident commenced.’
