Posting anonymously because I’m shaken and honestly heartbroken😞

My 13-year-old daughter had a verbal disagreement with a 15-year-old boy at school because he was calling her names, including “fat earthquake.” A teacher separated them and my daughter was the one who made the right choice and walked away. She then went downstairs to her next lesson on the second floor.
When she got there, he was waiting for her.

There was some pushing and shoving between them both, but he then pinned her into a corner by the scruff of her clothes and hair kicked her multiple times in the leg and gave her more than ten blows to the head. She blacked out and can’t remember parts of what happened. She now has 2 black eyes, a swollen jaw and bruised face along with a Undisplaced nasal bone fracture. She was absolutely covered in blood, head to toe, and didn’t even know where she was bleeding from.

We had to take her straight to the hospital. It’s all confirmed on her medical records. We have a follow-up next week at the fracture clinic and ENT.

What I’m struggling with is the school’s response. They won’t tell me what consequences this boy has faced, only that he “won’t be in school for a couple of days.” For a violent assault that caused actual injury and hospital treatment, that feels nowhere near enough.

They also refuse to show me the CCTV because “other children are involved,” even though my daughter is the victim.

I understand schools have data protection rules and can’t share certain student information, but this was a physical assault that happened to my child in a place that is supposed to be safe. I feel like I’m being kept in the dark about something incredibly serious.

I’m trying to understand: is this normal? Is this how schools handle violent incidents? What routes can I take to make sure this is taken seriously and doesn’t get brushed under the carpet? They didn’t call the police I did. But so far I know the police haven’t gone to school or to see the 15 year old or his parents🤷‍♀️

I’m devastated that something like this can happen in a place where our kids are supposed to be safe. I just need some perspective from other mums on what steps you took or what you would do next.

Thank you😞😞💔💔

  1. I’m sorry your daughter has experienced this – it’s awful. Awful for you to see this & for her. I can’t believe this happened in a school environment. It’s GBH and the police need to be involved. Hope your daughter recovers soon x

  2. You call the police yourself and press charges.
Your daughter would know who he is no?
If she does it wouldnt be hard to find out who the parents are if you want to confront them yourself.
So not in school for days means his got isolation for the week. Which is basically no classes and his work will be set in a room.
If your not happy with the school and how they handled things you make an appointment to see the school governors and take it up with them.
I would call the police and have him charged.
My daughter had a fight when she was at school over eyebrows and the girls mother called the police and had my daughter arrested.
My daughter washed police cars and apologised to the girls parents and the girl also.

  3. The school won’t show you the CCTV or tell you anymore than ‘we’ve taken action including this….’ What they should do is take statements from all involved (including your daughter) and view the CCTV.

You won’t know if the police have contacted the school or the other child unless the police tell you themselves

Realistically he should be suspended with a view to permanent exclusion.

If you aren’t happy with the schools response the first action is the Head Teacher – unless they are the one making the decisions (usually it can be head of behaviour etc), if so then it would be contacting the school governors (which should be found on the website) and making a formal complaint. If that doesn’t get anywhere then if part of a multi academy trust the CEO for then trust or the local council if still a local authority school.

Also as you’ve already contacted the police, you can contact them and ask for an update, give them an update on injuries and send over the medical report

  4. I will not leave it there. Your daughter needs to know that you got this and will help her.

Get a lawyer involved to ASAP. Open up a file at the Police station. They can arrange that the video footage be kept save for the court date. Get the hospital to give you a full injury report.

His child need to be in jail!!!

  5. I would go to the police, no ifs no buts from the school id definitely go to the police, what an awful experience for you child to go through. I hope she has a speedy recovery bless her. The schools response is disgusting xxx

  6. My sister had a similar experience at school many years ago. My mum went straight to the police station to press charges. Eventually it went to court and the outcome was slap on the wrist. They put it down to a school fight. My mum refused to send us back to that school after that. Hope your girl is okay. I, 100%, would be taking it further!
