“Am I being unreasonable, or would you be absolutely furious too?” My daughter…

“Am I being unreasonable, or would you be absolutely furious too?” 😩

My daughter is turning 7 and I’ve been planning her birthday party for months. Ive booked a lovely venue, paid for entertainment, food, party bags — the whole lot. I have spent just over £400 because it’s my daughter’s “big birthday” and i want to make it really special.

I’ve invited 18 children from my daughter’s class.

Here’s where things get awkward…

One of the mums messaged me saying she could bring her child and looks forward to nattering to the other mums, so she was expecting to stay at the party for the whole two hours, I told her parents weren’t invited but she’s insisting on coming because she doesn’t feel comfortable leaving her 7-year-old without a parent.

I explained that there wasn’t enough room for parents at the venue and, because i had paid per head for the children, i couldn’t afford to pay for 18 extra adults as well.

The other mum replied:

“Well, I’m not comfortable leaving my child somewhere if I’m not welcome.”

So I said, “That’s absolutely fine, she doesn’t have to come.”

And now apparently half the mums in the class are involved. 🙈

Some are saying I’m being ridiculous because “you don’t invite children to a party and then expect their parents to disappear.”

Others are saying that if you’ve paid hundreds of pounds for a children’s party, you shouldn’t have to pay for a load of adults too.

But then there’s another twist…

Apparently the mum who wanted to stay has now told another parent that her daughter has been “uninvited” from the birthday party because her mum wouldn’t agree to leave her.

WHO is being unreasonable here? 👀

Would you expect to stay at a 7-year-old’s party?

Or, once your child is old enough, do you think you should drop them off and let them enjoy themselves?

And be honest…

I want to hear ALL sides on this one. 👇

  1. I never just left them at a party, I stayed, helped out, nattered, got to know other kids mums. To be honest too, the parents probably dont expect you to pay for them, I think youve over thought this and turned a molehill into a mountain..😭

  2. From a child perspective I’d love to be able to enjoy my friends without my mom or dad there, just because some kids feel awkward with there parents around to socialize. But as a mother, I would not feel comfortable dropping off my child somewhere I’m not aloud to be. It’s the same as if I’m not welcomed somewhere with my child, I don’t go and nethire does he could be family’s house, or an event. If I’m not able to go why am I sending my child? I do see why u aren’t allowing the parents to attend you didn’t pay for it, but this should have been thought about before planning a party. Most parents aren’t going to let there elementary age child to go anywhere alone.

  3. My nephew had a 7th birthday party recently at a local soft play “after hours” to do laser tag. Every single parent left their child and didn’t stay. My sister would have happily let the parents stay 🤷

  4. No offence i wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving my 7 yr old,if its a mom I know v v well n we are friends yes,but if i didn’t know u well enough, I wouldnt leave mine,sorry if this offends bab,its just,I knkw my daughter n tbh,she wouldn’t let me leave her,she’s 9 now n still won’t be left,unless I know the mom x
