Looking for some advice or anyone who has been, or is currently, in a similar situation. ❤️
My little one is a couple of months away from turning 2 and currently only says a few words — I’d say fewer than 10. He babbles a lot, but his words haven’t really started coming through yet.
He also pulls hair a LOT, which we think is mainly for comfort but sometimes through frustration or excitement. We’re working on this with him.
He understands quite a lot of what we say, though. For example, he knows where his toothbrush goes, knows to get his shoes (and everyone else’s shoes and who they belong to!), will give you his dummy if you ask for it, and will give something to a specific person if you ask him to.
I know all children develop at different rates, but I wondered if anyone else has experienced something similar? Did your child benefit from support from nursery/childminders/health visitors, and how did things progress?
Or did you find that closer to 2–3 years old, their speech suddenly started to come along?
I’d really love to hear other people’s experiences — positive or otherwise. ❤️

My 2 year old was the same and then as this year went on she can say a lot more! She’s 2 years and 8 months and can speak a lot now but at that age she was barely saying anything.
No child is textbook and they all develop at different stages. If toddler was coming up to 3-3.5 and you was still in the same situation I’d say speak to your Health visitor and see what they suggest but at this age I think it’s quite normal as they are so small still.
my now 11 year old didnt really start talking until she was about 3…Einstein didnt start until he was 4 so dont worry about it for now…my neighbour asked me if my daughter was ‘slow’ which I almost flipped out at but as she was elderly I ignored the question..also my now 11 year old…will not shut up…..ever…if you ever want to hear a 5 second story somehow turned into a 5 hour story and a three act play do let me know 🤣
Nearly 2 is still very young, its not concerning yet.
