My daughter friends is 17 and 36 weeks pregnant. She was kicked out of her mums & been staying half with us & half with the boyfriend. She 18 3 weeks after baby is due so will go on UC and once baby is here she get help with emergency accommodation. The issues we have is she wants me & my daughter there when baby is born and the hospital are saying my daughter can’t although she 19 herself. Boyfriend wants to sit outside with his parents which she happy for him to do. The hospital are also telling g her she needs a carseat to come home in for baby. She dont have a car nither does boyfriend so we not brought a car seat with her baby stuff. I was on the assumption that she can get a taxi with baby in arms anyways but there saying no. There being very picky if im honest with her even the Social Worker she been given has commented. If she was not as far along I would have suggested she moved hospitals. But without medical reason they cant do it.

For years its been mandatory to leave with carseat , yes a person can travel legally in a taxi carrying baby or child on lap however this is down to driver discrection and its not safe an accident can happen in any car and journey imagine a newborn being flung across a car cuz no1 wanted to buy a carseat because it wont get used much as dont personally drive 😳
So if you collect her to bring her to an appointment afterrhe baby is born, how do you think you will get baby there??? In your car? So a carseat is needed.
My daughter is 16 and was born a month early so her travel system hadn’t come yet, but we had to get a car seat otherwise hospital wouldn’t let us take her home. It’s for the baby’s safety
Im all for keeping any child safe, a car seat is a must if baby will go in a car, that is common sense and i have no idea why you would even question that or suggest taxi with baby in arms. The taxi driver would be liable if caught or had an accident so i doubt they would even allow themselves. My children 19&21 were also expected to leave in a car seat and that was then so it shouldnt have changed. Each labour and birth is different and the one thing everyone wants is for mum and baby to leave, healthy and together so whatever they suggest or do is always with that in mind. I would take the advice they give as much as possible seeing as they do this everyday.
My eldest is 34 and it was law for car seat then who would even want to risk holding a baby in car .
Rules nowadays you have to have a car seat to leave the hospital. Even if you don’t drive and don’t have a car and your journey just involves use public transport like buses or trains. Best safe then sorry to be honest.
I had to have a car seat for my little girl. I gave birth on the mainland and I lived on the isle of wight so I had to get a taxi to the ferry. Even the taxi driver said that he would not let mothers in the taxi with their new born babies without a car seat.
She will need a car seat that can be carried. We didn’t have one as ours was a Joie 360 fixed in the car and they wouldn’t let us leave. My husband had to get the carry cot/ off the pram and my son was taken out in that. We knew for next time.
You need a car seat, even further down the line when baby is travelling in any future taxi journeys will need one. Look on market place/vinted.
Some hospitals also only allow one birthing partner, especially if its a planned section. X
In the UK they won’t let you take baby home without seeing baby in the car seat first.
Carseat rule is a running thing
Your daughters friend would have to have her on as the birthing partner in maternity notes and all would be fine
