Inside Maude Apatow’s life including candid response to ‘nepo baby’ backlash

One of Them Days star Maude Apatow has been a familiar face on screen for years

Maude Apatow is lighting up the screen in the new buddy-comedy One of Them Days, where she stars alongside Nickelodeon’s Keke Palmer and pop sensation SZA.

The newly-released film, set in Los Angeles, follows roommates Dreux (played by Palmer) and Alyssa (portrayed by SZA) as they scramble to gather enough money for rent to avoid eviction.

Apatow takes on a supporting role as Bethany, a young woman who moves into the neighbourhood of the main characters.

The comedy made its debut in the USA this January and has been met with acclaim from both critics and viewers. It currently holds an impressive 95 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with the critics’ consensus praising that “One of Them Days makes the buddy-comedy genre feel like magic once again.”

But who is the actress behind the character of Bethany?

Born Maude Annabelle Apatow in December 1997, the 27-year-old actress has been appearing in films since 2007.

She landed her first role at just 10 years old in the romantic comedy Knocked Up, which starred renowned actors Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl, reports the Mirror.

In 2009, she secured her second role in Funny People, followed by a part in This is 40 in 2012.

In her early career, Apatow often collaborated with her famous parents, either working under their direction or acting alongside them.

Who are Maude Apatow’s parents?

She is the eldest daughter of actress Leslie Mann and celebrated filmmaker Judd Apatow.

Her first three films were written and directed by her father, and her mother was also in the cast.

Rising to fame with HBO’s critically acclaimed series Euphoria, the American actress quickly found herself labelled a ‘nepo baby’ by audiences.

The pejorative term is used to critique children of celebrities for riding on their parents’ coattails into competitive fields such as the entertainment industry.

In a heartfelt discussion with Net-A-Porter in 2022, the screen star opened up about her feelings regarding the nepotism debate. She admitted the tag initially took an emotional toll: “At first I was sad,” but then she emphasised her resolve: “I try not to let it get to me because I obviously understand that I’m in such a lucky position.”

Embracing her fortunate status, she added, “A lot of people [in a similar position] have proven themselves over the years, so I’ve got to keep going and make good work. It’s so early in my career, I don’t have much to show yet, but hopefully one day I’ll be really proud of the stuff I’ve done by myself.”

Euphoria fame

Despite still being at the outset of her acting journey, with Euphoria she carved a niche as Lexi Howard, the grounded confidante to Zendaya’s turbulent main character Rue.

While her part was less conspicuous in the premiere season, season two saw her character take a pivotal role.

An intriguing narrative unfolded where Lexi strikes up a friendship with Fezco, the drug dealer enacted by Angus Cloud before his untimely demise in 2023.

The developing dynamic between Lexi and Fezco captured viewers’ hearts and sparked speculation of a potential romantic subplot in upcoming instalments. Regrettably, significant delays hindered the filming of the upcoming season before the actor’s passing.

Apatow is slated to reprise his role in Euphoria, which has recently commenced shooting for its third season, more than three years after the last series aired.
