“I feel guilty admitting this… but sometimes I don’t want to be a mum.”
There. I’ve said it.
Not because I don’t love my children.
Not because I regret having them.
And definitely not because I’d change them for the world.
But sometimes… I just want to be me.
I want to drink a cup of tea while it’s still hot.
I want to go to the toilet without someone shouting “MUM!” through the door.
I want to eat a meal without cutting someone else’s food into tiny pieces first.
I want to get in the car and drive somewhere without hearing, “Are we nearly there yet?” after approximately 4 minutes.
Sometimes I want a whole day where nobody needs anything from me.
And then the guilt kicks in.
Because we’re constantly told that being a good mum means putting your children first. That you should cherish every second because “they’re only little once.”
But what about the mum who is exhausted?
The mum who hasn’t had five minutes alone all week?
The mum who loves her children more than anything but desperately misses the woman she was before everyone started calling her Mum?
Surely admitting that doesn’t make us bad parents.
Maybe it just makes us human.
So I’m curious…
What’s the one thing you absolutely LOVE about being a mum… and the one thing you secretly wish you could escape from for 24 hours?
No judgement. ❤️

I’m a first time mum to an 8 week old boy. I love his little face and when he smiles and babbles away to me but he has silent reflux and colic and would love a decent nights sleep and to not have someone attached to me nearly 24hrs a day. It’s been a tough 8 weeks! Thank goodness for my village x
