i’m a first time mum, my partner has always liked a drink, including going awol. I thought he’d step up but didn’t, not during pregnancy or since our son has been born nearly 4 months ago. i’m struggling and i tell him and get nothing just him going for a drink for 8+ hours to ‘chill out’ i feel i’m hating my son because he is apart of him, i feel i’m doing 90% together but would get more free ‘me’ time if we weren’t together.
i can’t fault him as a dad, just as a partner he has been nothing but selfish. any advice for it gets better or if i know deep down i can do it, leave?

  1. The hating your son because he is part of your partner is slightly concerning, this child is yours do not let the actions of his dad affect your relationship. This child didn’t get to choose his dad you know? Everyone keeps saying just leave, but it’s harder when you’re in it I’ve been there. I would communicate this with him, if it’s safe to do so alone or get someone else present like your mum or a friend as a witness and tell him how you’re feeling and that if this doesn’t stop and he doesn’t seek help you’re going to leave because this isn’t fair on you.
I’ll be honest, I’ve been through a lot of shit with my kids dad but if he was doing this? Going out for 8+ hours drinking I’d have found it way easier to leave because that’s horrendous💔😫

  2. My ex did this but not the drink, he’d zone out on a gaming device or phone. 4 years later I said enough was enough, admittedly I was a believer he would change his ways! Now the kids I have with him are 2 and 4 and he’s just walked away from them and chose his new gf and her son. He said ” they can find me when they’re older!” Don’t make my mistake and believe they can change as many can’t. Plus if drink is involved then you don’t know how capable he is of doing something he shouldn’t
